The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced it will commence interviews for 19,943 teacher promotion slots starting the third week of January 2025. These interviews will follow the release of the 2024 KCSE results, scheduled for January 13, at KNEC headquarters in Nairobi.
TSC advertised these positions in December 2024, targeting teachers in job groups C1 to D4. The promotions, supported by a Ksh 1 billion allocation from the Treasury, aim to address staffing gaps in schools, including the absence of 3,359 institutional heads. Applicants had until December 30, 2024, to submit their applications online.

Key Requirements for Shortlisted Candidates
Successful applicants must provide:
– National ID cards
– TPAD ratings for the past three years
– Appointment and acting letters (if applicable)
– Disability membership cards (if applicable)
– Clearance certificates as per Chapter 6 of the Constitution, including:
1. Certificate of Good Conduct (DCI)
2. HELB clearance
3. Tax compliance (KRA)
4. EACC clearance
5. Credit Reference Bureau clearance
Preference will be given based on service duration, TPAD performance, and age. However, TSC has faced criticism for reducing the acting period requirement to six months, which some argue could lead to favoritism.
Promotion Opportunities Across All Levels
TSC seeks to fill vacancies in both primary and secondary schools, from senior teachers to chief principals. Over 3,300 educators currently in acting roles may be confirmed into permanent positions.
