The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured primary school teachers who upgraded their Primary Teacher Education (PTE) certificates to Diploma Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) that their efforts will pay off in the latest recruitment drive. TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia highlighted this during a stakeholder forum held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi.

Dr. Macharia, responding to concerns raised by journalists, clarified that upgraded teachers have not been overlooked. She revealed that these teachers would earn an extra five marks in the competitive recruitment process compared to those with only P1 certificates.

This announcement comes as TSC unveils 8,707 replacement vacancies for teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. The vacancies include 5,862 slots for primary schools, 21 for junior secondary schools, and 2,824 for secondary schools. The positions are open for applications starting December 31, 2024, with the deadline set for January 13, 2025.

To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold a P1 certificate (for primary schools) or a diploma in education (for junior and secondary schools), and be registered with TSC. All applications are to be submitted via TSC’s online portal.

The vacancies aim to replace teachers who exited the profession due to retirement, resignation, or natural causes. The TSC has also reiterated its plans to phase out the PTE certificate in favor of the DPTE as the minimum qualification for primary school teachers, aligning with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

TSC urges applicants to beware of fraudsters during the recruitment process, emphasizing that the exercise is free of charge. For further details, visit the TSC website.

This recruitment marks a step toward enhancing the teaching workforce and recognizing the efforts of teachers who upgraded their qualifications to meet modern education demands.
