Thousands of teachers who missed out on promotion opportunities last year will now receive regret letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). These letters, issued in line with TSC’s promotion regulations, will serve as proof of previous interview appearances for the affected teachers.

Soft copies of the regret letters will be sent to TSC County and Sub-County Directors, who will handle the printing and distribution to teachers. This development comes as TSC advertises 5,690 promotion vacancies for school administrators, with applications open until November 18, 2024.

The newly advertised positions include roles such as principals, deputy principals, headteachers, and deputy headteachers. Additionally, TSC plans to announce thousands of promotion vacancies for classroom teachers after the conclusion of the 2024 KCSE examinations, targeting educators in grades C1 and C2.

In 2023, TSC advertised 36,505 promotion slots for primary and secondary school teachers, costing Ksh 1 billion. The Commission received nearly 200,000 applications for these positions. Despite the significant number of opportunities, many teachers criticized the process, citing corruption and a lack of transparency.

For 2024, TSC has been allocated another Ksh 1 billion for teacher promotions. According to TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, the application process will be conducted online, followed by the release of a shortlist. Interview dates will be announced, and candidates will need to present the following documents:

– National ID card

– Academic and professional certificates

– Appointment letters to current grade and post

– Performance appraisal reports for the last three years

– KCPE/KCSE results analysis for three years, certified by TSC officials

TSC’s commitment to providing growth opportunities underscores its efforts to motivate teachers and enhance education standards nationwide.
