The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has initiated document verification for 20,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) internship positions across Kenya. This process follows the close of online applications at midnight on November 4 and will run from November 7 to November 15, 2024.

After verifying the documents, TSC plans to assign the selected interns to various schools in early January, requiring each to sign a one-year internship agreement. All interns will undergo training on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) from December 2 to December 5, 2024, to better prepare them for their teaching roles.

During verification, applicants need to present several documents, including their TSC registration certificate, National ID or passport, NHIF card, KRA PIN, and two passport-size photos. If applicable, applicants must also provide their National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card.

This internship program, lasting one year, is designed to help unemployed registered teachers gain valuable classroom experience through mentorship and coaching. While the program is non-remunerative, JSS interns will receive a monthly stipend of Kshs. 20,000, subject to deductions such as NHIF, Housing Levy, and NSSF.

Upon successful completion, interns will earn a certificate that can boost their prospects. This year, TSC awarded an extra 50 marks to former interns applying for permanent positions in its recruitment of 46,000 teachers. This preferential scoring underscores TSC’s commitment to supporting interns’ career growth, potentially making them top candidates for future permanent roles.
