TSC To Release 6000 Deployment Letters For P1 Teachers To JSS. TSC to Deploy 6,000 P1 Teachers to Junior Secondary Schools Starting January 2025.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to issue deployment letters to 6,000 P1 teachers who are qualified for Junior Secondary School (JSS) positions. This third wave of teacher deployment will start in January 2025, focusing on alleviating the teacher shortage in JSS.

According to TSC, Sub-County Directors will initially verify all necessary documentation before teachers receive their posting letters. Once approved at the sub-county level, TSC headquarters will conduct a final review to ensure that only qualified and certified teachers proceed to their designated JSS roles.
The shortage of teachers in JSS has been a major concern. TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia highlighted the disparity, with only 56,928 teachers currently in JSS, despite an urgent need for nearly 99,045 teachers across the country. In response, TSC recently opened 6,000 deployment positions specifically for P1 teachers with relevant qualifications to support JSS.
Eligible teachers submitted their applications to TSC sub-county offices, and those selected will receive their deployment letters before the start of the new term in early 2025. These teachers, previously serving in primary schools, are certified to teach in secondary school settings and will now help address the staffing gap in JSS.
To facilitate a smooth transition, TSC has instructed Sub-County Directors and Primary School Headteachers to immediately coordinate the release and acceptance of these deployed teachers. This streamlined process is expected to expedite salary arrangements for the newly appointed JSS teachers.
Furthermore, TSC has moved all teacher entry and exit processes online, eliminating the need for physical documentation. County Directors have been directed to handle all entry and exit reports digitally, ensuring that all deployment activities align with TSC’s digital protocols.
