TSC To Promote 45k Teachers Starting This Date This November. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is gearing up to promote 45,000 teachers in November, aiming to address career stagnation issues among educators. The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) confirmed that applications will open soon on the TSC portal, focusing on teachers who have been in the same job group for over five years. Interviews for eligible candidates are set to begin mid-November 2024.

KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori urged local branch leaders to help identify nearly 1,000 senior teachers who have been stuck in their roles for more than a decade. This initiative aims to bring overdue recognition and advancement opportunities to those who’ve faced long-standing career barriers. Misori stated, “KUPPET has encouraged TSC to prioritize these teachers to ensure fair treatment and deserved career growth.”

Career progression issues have long been a point of contention among educators, with many believing that the current Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs) hinder their ability to advance. TSC and KUPPET have been in discussions to revamp the guidelines, hoping to simplify promotion pathways and reduce barriers to advancement.
The revised guidelines, expected to roll out in January 2025, are a hopeful development for teachers. KUPPET plans to provide input on these changes, which will streamline the promotion process and create a more dynamic teaching profession in Kenya.
