TSC Lowers Requirements For P1 Teachers’ JSS Deployment . To support junior secondary education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to deploy primary school teachers with streamlined requirements. The deployment process, guided by TSC’s county and sub-county officers, will begin right after national exams.

Teachers must submit key documents through their Heads of Institutions, including ID, academic certificates, transcripts, specialization, and contact details. This move aligns with TSC’s readiness for the Grade 9 transition under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), having hired 48,550 teachers over the past two years—39,550 interns and 9,000 on permanent terms.

TSC also plans to address shortages in special needs schools, with 3,600 teachers being deployed this year. In light of budget constraints, TSC is phasing deployments to meet demand for specialized educators.

 

Dr. Nancy Macharia, TSC’s CEO, emphasized the Commission’s focus on staffing junior secondary schools, estimating a need for 70,000 teachers across grades 7, 8, and 9. The new deployment policies now include teachers with degrees in primary, ECDE, and SNE options. TSC is prioritizing teachers with Diplomas or Degrees in Special Needs Education (SNE) and easing past requirements, allowing for more flexible qualifications for junior school teaching roles.

With additional data gathered, TSC is finalizing lists per county, verifying documents, and preparing appointment letters for qualified teachers. Deployment will be based on teachers’ KCSE mean grades, areas of specialization, and experience, ensuring they are strategically placed to support junior secondary learners.
