TSC Receives Over 314000 Applications For 46k Teaching Jobs . TSC Draws Over 314,000 Applicants for 46,000 Teaching Positions in Just One Week.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a staggering 314,117 applications for the 46,000 teaching jobs it advertised between October 1 and 8. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia revealed these figures while addressing the Parliamentary Education Committee on Wednesday.

Out of the total, 93,646 applicants applied for the 6,000 primary school teacher positions, and a remarkable 144,177 applications poured in for the 39,550 junior secondary school (JSS) teacher openings. Additionally, the commission received 76,294 applications for the 450 advertised secondary school teaching posts.

This recruitment drive is part of TSC’s initiative to confirm 46,000 intern teachers to permanent and pensionable roles starting January 2025, backed by a Ksh. 13.4 billion allocation from the Treasury.

“Currently, the commission is receiving employment forms and offer letters from its county offices. The teachers are expected to report to their schools by January 2025,” Macharia explained.
In a further boost to the profession, TSC was granted Ksh. 1 billion for teacher promotions in the 2024/2025 financial year, with plans to advertise the vacancies soon and kickstart the promotion process.
