Celebrations As A Kisii Man Graduates From KU After 18 Years . Inspiring Journey: Kisii Man Graduates from Kenyatta University After 18 Years
Charles Nyagero, a determined individual from Kisii, is celebrating an incredible milestone after graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree from Kenyatta University—18 years after he first enrolled.
Nyagero’s journey began in 2005, but it was far from easy. As a Seventh-day Adventist, he faced significant challenges when exam schedules clashed with the Sabbath, preventing him from sitting for tests on Saturdays. “I managed to complete only four exams that weren’t on the Sabbath, while three were scheduled then, and one unit went missing for reasons I still can’t explain,” he recounted.

To align his studies with his beliefs, Nyagero transferred to KU’s Ruiru campus and enrolled in a regular program. However, financial hurdles soon emerged when his sister, his main supporter, stopped covering his tuition fees. Despite attending classes diligently, he couldn’t take exams due to outstanding fees.
In 2009, a university strike brought about stricter rules, barring students with fee balances from taking exams. Unyielding, Nyagero took on various odd jobs to raise the necessary funds, all while holding onto his dreams of graduation.
Finally, in 2023, his perseverance paid off as he completed his studies. On graduation day in December, Nyagero chose a simple celebration—attending the ceremony for just an hour before heading to Nairobi to manage his bookshop. He later enjoyed the ceremony online.
“Despite the struggles, I thank God for everything,” Nyagero reflected on his remarkable journey. His story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
