This change comes as the Ministry of Education responds to new guidelines from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) regarding the administration of national exams. As part of these adjustments, schools will now close earlier to facilitate KPSEA and KILEA rehearsals.
The Ministry has issued a circular banning school visits, prayers, and meetings on school grounds during the third term.
Key Changes from KNEC for National Exams
1. Customized Exam Papers: Each candidate’s exam papers will now feature their name, index number, and school pre-printed. At the end of each paper, the candidate details will be detached to maintain anonymity during grading.
2. Individual Responsibility for Cheating: Candidates found cheating will be held personally accountable, with no collective punishment for entire schools or exam centers.
3. No Extra Papers: This year, no additional exam papers will be printed.
TSC Guidelines for Exam Supervision
1. Supervisors and invigilators for the KCSE exams must be qualified secondary school teachers.
2. Weekly rotations for KCSE supervisors are mandated, with outgoing supervisors required to prepare handover notes for their successors.
3. Only TSC-registered teachers with high integrity will be deployed.
4. Supervisors and invigilators must declare any vested interests in the examination centers they are assigned.
5. Attendance must be taken daily, and teachers in Stage-Based Pathway schools will supervise their own learners, with one invigilator per ten candidates.
6. One supervisor is required for every 200 candidates, with specific rules for hosted centers.
7. Supervisors and invigilators cannot be assigned to centers where they have served in the past two consecutive years.
8. Only those registered in the CP2 system will manage the 2024 national examinations and assessments.
