Funding and Salary Adjustments
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that Ksh 18.7 billion is now available to validate the appointments of 46,000 intern teachers. Additionally, Ksh 13.5 billion has been allocated to implement the second phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which covers salary increments. Ogamba emphasized the commitment to improving educational standards and ensuring fair wages for educators.

Contract Extensions for Intern Teachers
TSC has extended the contracts of intern teachers hired in September 2023 by four months, now running from September 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia directed this extension to maintain school continuity and prepare for a larger hiring drive planned for October. Interns must complete necessary forms before their current contracts end on August 31.
Macharia explained that the contract extension will allow current intern teachers to complete their current academic year, facilitating a smooth transition into the next year. This move aims to ensure stability in schools and a seamless handover for new hires.
 Upcoming Hiring Plans
In October, TSC plans to recruit 20,000 new intern teachers. Of these, 2,000 will be for primary education, while 18,000 will be assigned to junior secondary education. Currently, TSC employs a total of 46,000 intern teachers. In February 2023, TSC hired 21,550 junior school interns and 4,000 primary school interns. Later, in April 2023, 450 secondary school interns were added, and in September 2023, 18,000 junior school interns and 2,000 primary school interns joined the team.
