The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has backdated the July salary hike for all teaching staff. This change follows the new grading system introduced after the signing of the Sh 54 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 2017 to 2021. This agreement, which involved the TSC and three teachers’ unions, now includes updated salary rates for teachers across primary and secondary schools.

 Career Progression Guidelines (CPG)
The TSC has adopted the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) to promote teachers through a new grading system. This system is designed to advance teachers to various grades based on their experience and performance.
Promotion and Salary Adjustments
Under the latest CBA, primary school teachers in Grade B5 who have served for three years will automatically move to Grade C1. Teachers in Grade C1, also known as Primary Teacher I, are positioned in T-Scale 6. However, the promotion from Grade C1 to C2 is not automatic.

Grade C2, known as Senior Teacher I, is a promotion grade for primary school teachers and also serves as an entry point into the administrative cadre. Advancement to this grade is competitive and depends on available vacancies.
