Budget Announcement Brings Good News
During the state budget presentation on June 15, 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) shared that it is evaluating starting monthly salaries for the fiscal year 2022–2023. Teachers employed by TSC can expect their June 2023 wages and benefits, including arrears, starting next week. Teachers promoted to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) will be the first to benefit from these increases.

Early Promotions and Salary Adjustments
In February 2023, the TSC prioritized promoting PTE instructors to JSS. Education officers at the sub-county level carefully reviewed their documentation. According to deployment letters, these educators start in job group C2 with a gross monthly salary of 58,335 Kenyan shillings.

Only those who submitted the required documents were considered for promotion. The newly hired JSS instructors have already received full payment, including arrears.
Diverse Employment Types
The TSC employs over 35,000 middle school teachers on various terms, including long-term, probation, and internship. Of these, only half have received additional salaries, but they will receive compensation next week. Teachers promoted to job groups B5, C1, and C2 will see their pay increases soon.
 Career Progression Guidelines and Civil Servants
Promotions follow the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG). By June 2023, TSC instructors in job groups B5, C1, and C2 will have their incomes restored. Those who were not promoted will also receive their salaries. The remuneration commission stated that other civil servants will start receiving their increased salaries next week.
