Long-Awaited TSC Promotions Announced!. The Long-Awaited TSC Promotions Announced: KUPPET Advocates for Stagnated Teachers.
Demands for Promotions
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has strongly demanded action from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) regarding promotions. Over 1000 teachers who have been stagnant in the same job groups for over a decade are the focus of these demands.
Call for Automatic Promotions
KUPPET’s Secretary General, Akello Misori, emphasized the need for these long-stagnated teachers to be automatically promoted in the upcoming round of promotions. Despite their adherence to career progression guidelines (CPG) and participation in multiple promotion interviews, these teachers have yet to see any progress in their careers.
Challenges Highlighted at Naivasha Retreat
During a five-day retreat in Naivasha, Misori voiced these concerns alongside technical team members and TSC officials. The meeting, initiated by TSC in response to questions raised by KUPPET regarding last year’s promotion list, aimed to address discrepancies and omissions in the promotions.
Criticisms and Findings
Misori publicly criticized the promotion list during the meeting, revealing disturbing findings. The list included 14 teachers who had already passed away and numerous curriculum support officers who were promoted despite not being teachers. Additionally, TSC secretariat staff had unfairly benefited from the promotions intended solely for teachers.
Advocating Fairness and Transparency
KUPPET presented a list of 1000 stagnated teachers, demanding their immediate promotion. This list is available for review on the TSC website. At the meeting, KUPPET advocated for the abolishment of the CPG system and urged for fair and transparent promotion processes for all teachers.
The long-awaited TSC promotions have been announced. And KUPPET continues to push for fair treatment and immediate promotion of stagnated teachers. This ongoing issue highlights the need for transparency and fairness in the promotions. This process is to ensure that all eligible teachers receive the recognition and advancement they deserve.
