TSC Primary Teacher Deployment .
TSC Primary Teacher Deployment . TSC Primary Teacher Deployment Guidelines.
Introduction
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued updated guidelines and requirements for the deployment of 1,206 primary school teachers to junior schools. This initiative focuses on teachers with new qualifications and grades.
Qualifications for TSC Primary Teacher Deployment
On May 23, 2024, Antonina Lentoijon, the staffing officer, addressed an internal memo to Regional, County, and Sub-County Directors. The memo highlighted the necessary qualifications for primary teachers to be deployed to junior secondary schools.
Bachelor’s Degree Holders
Primary school teachers with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education under job groups B5 and C1 will receive grade C2 appointment letters. Meanwhile, those with diplomas in grade B5 will receive C1 appointment letters.
Promotions and Deployment Letters
Teachers promoted on or before March 26, 2021, and currently in job group C2, will also receive deployment letters for grade C2. This ensures that experienced teachers are recognized and appropriately placed.
Other Eligibility Criteria
The commission’s memo detailed that teachers in job group C1 with a diploma but less than three years of service, those in job group C2 with diplomas, and those with a Bachelor’s Degree in job group C3 and above will all receive deployment letters.
Considerations for Deployment
County directors must consider the current and new stations of the teachers to ensure proximity, preventing long commutes. They should also consider each teacher’s subject combination to avoid redundancy in junior schools and ensure gender parity among the staff.
Special Needs Education (SNE) Teachers
Qualified teachers specializing in Special Needs Education (SNE) will be deployed to special junior schools. This emphasizes the need for tailored educational approaches in special education.
Active Registration and Qualifications
To qualify for deployment, teachers must have active registration with the TSC and be currently employed as primary school teachers. They should not be under interdiction or facing disciplinary actions. Additionally, teachers must possess at least a diploma in Education and have scored a minimum of C+ at KCSE, with a C+ in their two teaching subjects.
Additional Criteria
Teachers with a C plain at KCSE but holding a Diploma in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education are also eligible for deployment. However, those with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Primary Option) do not qualify.
Expressing Interest and Approval
Teachers must have expressed interest in the deployment and appear on the list of applicants shared from the headquarters. Sub-county Directors will sign deployment letters for teachers within the sub-county, while County and Regional Directors will sign for those deployed outside the sub-county.
Conclusion
The TSC’s new guidelines for deploying primary teachers to junior schools aim to enhance educational quality and ensure that qualified teachers are appropriately placed. These measures focus on qualifications, proximity, subject combination, and gender parity, ensuring a well-rounded deployment process.
