CS Machogu Extends Second Term . CS Machogu Extends Second Term Dates To Recover The Time Lost.
School Inspection Preceding Reopening
During an inspection of schools in Nairobi county after the reopening of schools on 13th May 2024, CS Machogu made a significant announcement. He declared that the second term would be extended slightly to enable learning to be easy for learners. This is to give an extra for learners to compensate the time lost during floods across Kenya.
Reasoning Behind Extension
Machogu explained that the Ministry of Education would shorten the duration of the August holiday. This adjustment aims to provide ample time to cover the syllabus effectively. This directive will see second term holiday shortened .
Postponement Due to Weather Conditions
The decision to extend the term follows the postponement of school opening dates from May 6 to May 13. This delay was due to heavy rains that affected the country.
Assessment of School Readiness
Despite challenges, Machogu emphasized that the majority of schools nationwide are ready to open. He asserted that 95% of schools have met the necessary criteria for reopening after undergoing assessment.
Focus on Form Four Candidates
Machogu highlighted the importance of prioritizing Form Four candidates. To compensate for lost time, he proposed extending the second term by a few days. This adjustment aims to minimize the number of days schools will be closed, especially for these students.
Examination Schedule Remains Unchanged
However, Machogu clarified that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations will proceed as scheduled. He assured that there would be no postponement of these crucial assessments.
Maintaining Normalcy in Examination Calendar
“The examination calendar remains the same,” he affirmed. Both the KCSE and KPSEA examinations will be conducted in November as originally planned.
