2024 Academic Calendar: Terms 2 & 3 . Academic Calendar For Kenyan Primary & Secondary Schools For 2 and 3 Term.
Introduction
The Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary CS Ezekiel Machogu, has unveiled strategies to address the disruptions in the 2024 term 2 school calendar caused by recent heavy rains. Originally, the second term was set to commence on April 29, 2024, as outlined in the full-year academic calendar.
However, due to the adverse weather conditions, which led to intensified rains, students experienced a one-week delay, compelling them to stay at home. President William Ruto, in response to the ongoing flooding, extended the school closure indefinitely, citing revised advisories from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In alignment with the revised term two calendar, schools will now reopen on May 13 and conclude on August 5, 2024. A midterm break is scheduled for all students from June 20 to 23, followed by a three-week holiday from August 5 to 25.
Similarly, teacher training institutions, overseen by the Ministry of Education, will operate from April 29 to August 2, 2024, with a holiday period from August 5 to 30.
Revised School Calendar – Second Term 2024
– May 13: Nationwide school reopening after extended closure due to rains.
– June 20:Â Half-term break for all schools.
– August 5:Â Commencement of August holidays (dates subject to ministry directives).
– August 23: Reopening of all schools for term three.
Term three, marking the final phase of the academic year, spans nine weeks, from August 26 to October 25. During this period, learners will undergo the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) from October 28 to 31, 2024.
Subsequently, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams are scheduled from November 4 to 22. Following the exams, students will enjoy an extended December holiday, from October 28 to January 3, 2025.
For teacher training institutions, the last term runs from August 26 to November 8, 2024. Subsequently, these institutions will break for an extended December holiday from November 11 to January 3, 2025.
