P1 teachers constitute the initial cohort set to benefit from these double promotions. Successful candidates from the December 2023 interviews are in line for significant advancements. The recent announcement by TSC offering 6000 slots for deployment to junior secondary schools opens another avenue for promotion.
Upgraded Qualifications
A notable number of P1 teachers have advanced their qualifications to diplomas and degrees. Among the over 36,000 promoted teachers, many possess degrees and will likely be considered for deployment to junior secondary schools.
TSC Requirements for P1 Teachers’ Deployment to JSS
However, strict conditions set by TSC govern the deployment of primary school teachers to junior schools. Only those with a degree in secondary education will be considered, with a deadline for application set for March 18, 2024.
Opportunities for PTE Teachers
During the third phase of teacher promotions, TSC extended opportunities for PTE teachers to be posted to junior schools, expanding the pool of potential candidates.
Minimum Requirements
TSC has established minimum requirements for P1 teachers seeking deployment to junior schools. These include possession of a valid TSC registration certificate, serving under permanent and pensionable terms, holding a Diploma in Education, and attaining a minimum grade of C+ at KCSE.
Specialized Subjects
Applicants must also have at least a C+ grade in two teaching subjects or two principles and one subsidiary pass at A level for those under the old system. Additionally, candidates should have completed a minimum of 8 units in each specialized teaching subject and be free from interdiction or disciplinary cases.
Exclusions
However, holders of Bachelor of Education degrees in the primary option are ineligible for these promotions.
