Annual Leave
Teachers in job group B5 to C1 receive a leave allowance of Ksh. 4,000, while those in job group C2, C3, C4, and C5 get Ksh. 6,000. Educators in categories D1 to D5 are granted Ksh. 10,000 annually.
A teacher is entitled to 42 days of annual leave to be used during school breaks. Not taking annual leave means being on duty even during school holidays.
Maternity Leave
Female teachers are entitled to 90 consecutive calendar days of maternity leave separate from annual leave. To apply, submit a request along with medical documents to the head of the institution at least one month before the intended leave period.
Paternity Leave
Male teachers can request up to 10 days of paternity leave during their spouse’s maternity leave. The application should be sent through the head of the institution.
Compassionate Leave
Teachers can request up to 15 days of compassionate leave within a calendar year for urgent matters. Submit requests to the head of the institution.
Study Leave
Teachers can apply for study leave according to the prevailing policy. Follow these steps:
– Submit the application to the Commission at least one month before the start date.
– Include the admission letter.
– Report for duty 30 days before leave expiry and provide evidence of studies.
Bonding
Teachers granted study leave with pay will be bonded to the commission based on the duration of their courses.
Special Leave
The Commission can offer special leave with pay for national meetings or approve special leave without pay for necessary absences.
Leave to Spouses of Diplomats
Teachers whose spouses serve as diplomats are eligible for unpaid leave for the spouse’s duty assignment outside Kenya. Submit a request along with relevant documents from the teacher service commission.
