– Commuter allowance: Sh. 5,000
– Leave allowance: Sh. 6,000 (issued annually)
– House allowance: Monthly rates range from Sh. 7,000 to Sh. 16,500, depending on the teacher’s station.
Probation Period
Newly employed teachers under permanent and pensionable terms undergo evaluation during a probation period, usually lasting six months from the date of employment. If performance is unsatisfactory, the probation period may be extended.
Promotion
After three years of service, newly employed graduate teachers are automatically promoted to job group L, now designated as C3. To initiate the promotion process, teachers need to fill out a form and submit it to the commission’s offices.
Statutory Deductions
Before salary disbursement, statutory deductions are made, including NHIF, HELB, PAYE, union dues, savings accounts, and third-party loans.
Diploma Teachers
Teachers with a diploma in teacher education receive a slightly lower monthly base compensation of Sh. 27,195, with the same allowances applicable.
Primary School Teachers
Primary school teachers start in job group B5 and are promoted to C1 after three years. Their base pay begins at Sh. 21,756, with additional benefits.
