TSC Deploying 6000 Primary Teachers.
TSC Deploys 6000 Primary Teachers to Junior Secondary Schools. Government aim to settle teachers shortage crisis.
Introduction:
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced its plans to issue deployment letters to the third batch of qualified P1 teachers for junior secondary schools (JSS) starting May 2024. This is a government plan to deal with the issue of teachers shortage in public schools. This will give students a good learning environment to conduct their studies.
Deployment Process:
A total of 6000 teachers will receive posting letters to schools following thorough document scrutiny by Sub-County Directors. TSC headquarters will also verify the documents to ensure only qualified teachers with authentic credentials are posted. The issue of deployment will see other teachers being sent far away from homelands
Addressing Teacher Shortage:
In January this year, TSC expressed concern over severe teacher shortages in junior secondary schools. CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia highlighted the need for 99,045 teachers compared to the current 56,928.
Remedy and Application Process:
To address the shortage, TSC advertised 6000 deployment slots for serving primary school teachers with degrees to move to secondary schools. Qualified applicants were required to submit applications by March 18, 2024.
Deployment Timeline:
Successful teachers will receive posting letters to begin serving in junior secondary schools early in term two, 2024. These teachers, qualified to teach in secondary schools, will receive their deployment letters before the new term starts.
Facilitating Payments:
To expedite payments, Sub-County Directors and Primary Headteachers are expected to release and receive the deployed teachers promptly.
Administrative Procedures:
County Directors are instructed to initiate posting letters and facilitate the Entry or Exit Reports Module to the Sub-County immediately. Deployment of P1 teachers to junior secondary schools will be coordinated with TSC Sub-County Directors, with all entry and exit reports conducted online as hard copies are no longer accepted by TSC.
