List Of 33 Counties Expecting Heavy Rainfall. Kenya Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain in 33 Cities. This leads to caution to the public over heavy rainfalls.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Introduction

In response to forecasts by the Kenya Meteorological Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a list of 33 cities across various provinces expected to face heavy rainfall. This advisory aims to prepare residents for potential flooding and other associated risks. Risks that comes as a result of heavy rains is flooding, outbreak of disease, displacement of people among others. The government is sensitizing the public over the impending dangers of heavy rains.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Regions Affected

 

1. Rift Valley Region

The following cities in the Rift Valley Region are likely to be affected:

– Nandi

– Bomet

– Nakuru

– Elgeyo Marakwet

– West Pokot

– Baringo

– Samburu

– Turkana

– Uasin Gishu

– Laikipia

– Narok

 

 

 

 

 

2. Western Region

In the Western Region, the following cities are on the list of areas expected to experience heavy rain:

– Kakamega

– Vihiga

– Busia

– Bungoma

– Trans Nzoia

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Central Region

Towns in the Central Region that are likely to face heavy rainfall include:

– Nyeri

– Murang’a

– Kirinyaga

– Kiambu

– Nyandarua

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. Lake Victoria Basin Region

The Lake Victoria Basin Region is also expected to be affected, with the following cities on the list:

– Kisumu

– Kisii

– Nyamira

– Migori

– Siaya

– Homa Bay

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5. Eastern Region

– Machakos

– Embu

– Tharaka Nithi

– Meru

– Marsabit

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dry Regions

While heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of the country, certain areas, particularly in the North East (Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir) and South East (Kitui, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Tana basins), are projected to remain dry.

 

 

 

 

Additional Risks

Central areas and the catchment areas of the Seven Forks Dam may experience flooding, particularly affecting the Tana Delta, Tana River County, and Lamu County. Coastal areas, notably Kwale and Kilifi districts, should also be prepared for strong winds and waves accompanying the heavy rains starting on Sunday, May 5th.
