Postponement of School Reopening
The Ministry of Education recently announced a delay in the reopening of schools, now scheduled for May 6, 2024. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu clarified this decision, attributing it to the widespread floods affecting the country’s mobility and safety. Machogu made the decision to postpone the opening of schools due to the continued cases of deaths due to floods across Kenya. This decision that was announced late at night lead to confusion among students, teachers and parents.
Term 2 Schedule
Term two will span 14 weeks, from May 6 to August 2 2024 . A mid-term break is set for June 20–23, with an extended holiday from August 5 to August 25. For teacher training institutions, the term will start on April 29 and end on August 2, with holidays from August 5 to August 30. This Calender was affected due to an additional of 1 week. The ministry added a week due to floods that are experienced nationwide.
Transition to Term 3
Term three will last for nine weeks, running from August 26 to October 25. Key assessments including KPSEA and KILEA exams are scheduled for October 28–31. Remember that this is the term that many exams are administered in school for promotions.
End-of-Year Exams and December Holiday
KCSE exams will take place from November 4 to 22, followed by a lengthy December holiday from October 28 to January 3, 2025. It should be remembered that during KCSE period schools are closed for the other forms.

Final Semester for Teachers
Teacher training institutions will have their final semester spanning 11 weeks, from August 26 to November 8, with an extended December holiday from November 11 to January 3, 2025.
