Subject-Based Teacher Redeployment . Redeployment of Teachers Based on Subject Combinations
Ministry Refutes Misleading Claims
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education swiftly debunked rumors circulating about an alleged plan to redeploy teachers using a new system. The misleading post, widely shared but subsequently flagged by the Ministry, purported that redeployments would be based on subject combinations.
 Clarification on School Categorization
Initially, the Ministry had announced a categorization of schools into STEM centers, Humanities and Arts Schools, and Creative Arts and Sports Schools. However, the flagged post falsely claimed that national schools would be labeled STEM centers, extra county schools as creative arts and sports centers, and county schools as Humanities and Arts Schools.
Denouncement of Misinformation
The Ministry explicitly denounced the misinformation, urging the public to disregard such unfounded claims. The Ministry’s clarification followed inquiries from concerned Kenyans questioning the validity of the information, which had stirred uproar on social media platforms.
False Incorporation of Media Outlet Logo
To lend credibility to the fake information, the misleading post incorporated the logo of a prominent media outlet, sparking curiosity among social media users.
Government’s Intention to Abolish School Categorization
Notably, on April 25 of this year, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang had announced the government’s intention to abolish the national categorization of schools. Speaking at the Inaugural Annual Symposium on Competency-Based Assessment, Kipsang revealed plans to eliminate the categorization of schools as national, extra-county, county, and sub-county.
Consequently
Instead, senior schools would be identified based on their subject offerings and infrastructural capabilities. Consequently, national schools, known for their superior infrastructure, would focus on STEM subjects, while sub-county schools would offer a broader range of subjects.
Redeployment of Teachers According to Subject Combinations
In conclusion, the Ministry’s clarification has dispelled the false information regarding the redeployment of teachers based on subject combinations. Moving forward, the government aims to abolish the outdated categorization system and focus on enhancing subject offerings and infrastructure in schools.
