April School Holidays Announcement . April School Holidays Announcement: Schools Prepare for Early Closure.

Introduction:

As the first term draws to a close, schools are announcing early closures. Secondary schools, in particular, will close this week ahead of two public holidays.

According to the Ministry of Education, schools will officially close on April 5th, 2024, which falls on the coming Friday.

However, this Friday, March 29th, will already be a public holiday as Christians observe Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Following Good Friday, Christians will celebrate Easter Sunday on March 31st, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

On Monday, April 1st, Easter Monday, another public holiday in Kenya, will follow.

This arrangement means there will be no school on Friday this week and Monday next week, prompting many secondary schools to opt for early closure this week.

Principals and headteachers are rushing to close early to manage their budgets amid a cash crunch. This decision will help them save on various costs, including food, electricity, and water.

However, the government has only released twenty-five percent of the first term capitation instead of the required fifty percent. This shortage has left secondary schools struggling to meet the needs of their students.

The first term, which was scheduled to run from January 8th to April 5th, spans thirteen weeks.

Most primary schools will close on Wednesday next week, while others will close on Thursday or Friday the same week.

In contrast, secondary schools have already completed their exams, with some parents receiving results through platforms like Zeraki Analytics.

Many primary schools are currently undergoing assessments, including zonal and sub-county assessments for upper primary classes.

After closing, students will enjoy a three-week holiday from April 8th to April 26th, with schools set to resume on April 29th.

The second term will then commence, lasting fourteen weeks until August 2nd.

During the second term, schools will also observe a three-day midterm break from June 20th to June 23rd.

Both public and private schools have been warned against conducting holiday tuition.

As schools prepare to close, co-curricular activities are reaching their peak. Primary, junior, and secondary schools are heavily involved in various activities.

The Ministry of Education has released a calendar of co-curricular activities for all primary, junior, and secondary schools, as well as teacher’s colleges.
