Education Ministry’s KPEEL Inspections . Education Ministry Initiates Nationwide School Inspections to Assess KPEEL Progress.
Introduction:
The Ministry of Education has deployed a specialized team to start school inspection. The team is led by senior government officials. This is to conduct comprehensive inspections of schools nationwide to evaluate school status. It also aim to see the impact of the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) program.
Overview of KPEEL Initiative:
Launched in 2022, the KPEEL program aims to reduce regional disparities in learning outcomes . And also enhance girls’ retention in upper primary education. It also focuses on strengthening national-level systems to ensure equitable learning opportunities across the country.
Inspection Details:
The Directorate of Projects Coordination and Delivery within the Ministry of Education will oversee the inspection process, which will span ten days and cover various sampled schools.
Scope and Participants:
Under the leadership of the KPEEL Project National Coordinator, Martha Ekirapa, the inspections will be conducted in at least 13 counties. Technical teams, consisting of officials from organizations such as the World Bank, UNHCR, and other stakeholders, will participate in the inspections.
Inspection Commencement:
The inspection commenced on March 20 and is scheduled to conclude on March 29, 2024. The first phase of inspections kicked off in Lodwar town, Turkana County.
School Visits and Collaboration:
During the inspections, schools including Kakuma refugee camps, established through collaboration between the Department of Refugee Services, UNHCR, and other partners, were visited.
Counties Under Review:
Turkana, Samburu, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisii, Bomet, Narok, Kisumu, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Kwale are among the counties enlisted for review.

Evaluation Focus:
The team’s primary focus is to assess sampled schools and gather data on the impact of the KPEEL program on classroom dynamics.
