Promoted Staff Replace Temp Teachers . TSC’s Initiative to Promote Staff and Replace Temporary Teachers

Introduction:

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is implementing a strategy to replace teachers in acting capacities with promoted staff. This initiative aims to fill administrative roles with qualified individuals who have successfully undergone promotion processes.

Promotion Process and Outcome:

In September of the previous year, the TSC advertised 36,505 promotion slots. Following rigorous assessments, a comprehensive list of successful candidates has been released, signaling a shift in administrative roles within schools. Through county directors, TSC has commenced the distribution of promotion letters to deserving educators.

Appointment of Deputies and Addressing Vacancies:

To address the surge in retirements of headteachers and principals, TSC appointed deputies to assume principal and head teacher positions in various schools between January and March of this year. Concurrently, directives have been issued to county and sub-county directors to ensure seamless transitions and avoid vacancies in schools.

Interviews and Documentation:

Interviews for promotion were conducted in December 2023 for elementary school teachers and in January 2024 for post-primary school teachers. Over 150,000 educators were shortlisted for these interviews. Successful candidates are required to submit specific documents in alignment with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity.’

Placement and Deployment:

Promoted individuals, particularly those assuming headteacher and deputy roles, may be assigned to schools outside their current sub-counties. Senior teachers are likely to be placed in schools within their current sub-counties, prioritizing vacancies within those schools. Meanwhile, those promoted through confirmation will be deployed to schools where they have accrued years of experience.

Communication with Unsuccessful Candidates:

Unsuccessful candidates will receive letters of notification, acknowledging their participation in the interview process.

Conclusion:

The TSC’s initiative to promote staff and replace temporary teachers underscores its commitment to ensuring effective leadership within schools. By filling administrative roles with qualified personnel, the commission aims to enhance the quality of education delivery across the country.
