TSC Fails To Promote Teachers . TSC’s Failure to Promote Teachers Sparks Union Concern.

Introduction:

Teachers Unions express dismay over recent promotions released by TSC. They are citing the exclusion of certain job groups, particularly those long overdue for advancement.

Unions’ Concerns:

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), and Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) reveal that D4 job group teachers have been notably overlooked in the promotion rounds. This is despite possessing the requisite qualifications.

Issues Highlighted:

The unions emphasize the administrative gap created by TSC’s oversight in considering qualified D4 teachers for promotion. Grade D4 teachers’ inability to progress results in stagnation within lower job grades.

Call for Accountability:

Kuppet and Knut embark on gathering data from teachers to ensure transparency and fairness in the promotion process. This aims  to address concerns raised by affected teachers.

Challenges Faced:

Secretary General Akello Misori underscores the hurdles hindering teachers’ professional advancement. He  urges TSC to recognize the impact of promotion delays on teachers’ morale and productivity.

Stagnation Concerns:

Misori notes that stagnation issues extend to Grade D5, with D4 teachers also facing hurdles in career progression, leading some to opt for early retirement.

Acting Principal Dilemma:

The unions express worry over deputy principals assuming acting principal roles for prolonged periods without compensation, leading to frustration among educators.

Criticism of Job Group Creation:

Misori criticizes the creation of job groups C3 and C4 from job group L, stating that this transition hampers teachers’ career progression and disrupts the traditional advancement path.

Data Collection Initiative:

In response to mounting grievances, the unions initiate data collection on teachers denied rightful promotions, aiming to address the identified challenges effectively.

The unions’ efforts underscore a collective push for accountability and fairness within the education sector, aiming to ensure that all deserving teachers receive due recognition and advancement opportunities.
