P1 Teachers TSC Qualifications. Advancing Careers: TSC’s Requirements for Upgraded P1 Teachers
Introduction:
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) mandates all primary school teachers (P1 teachers) and ECDE instructors to undergo upgrades. They must be in previously unexplored areas of their training. Failure to comply may hinder career advancement opportunities.
Importance of Upgrading:
Without an upgrading certificate, current employed teachers may find it challenging to progress in their careers, as TSC insists on hiring only upgraded teachers.
Initiation of Upgrade Programs:
TSC commenced the initiative to enhance P1 teachers’ certifications and elevate their professional status as instructors in October 2021.
Program Details:
The upgrading process offers four slots for Diploma Elementary Teacher Education (DPTE) and five slots for Diploma Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE). These programs include practical hours and a comprehensive curriculum.
Inside the Upgrading Program:
The DECTE requires 1176 academic hours, while the DPTE demands 786 academic hours, along with 300 hours of teaching experience for both PTE and ECDE upgrades. Teachers focus only on subjects not covered during their initial training.
Flexibility for Teachers:
Unemployed P1 teachers have the advantage of ample time for enrollment, while those currently employed can opt for a mixed upgrade program during holidays.
Requirements for DPTE:
Primary school teachers seeking DPTE must possess a valid PTE certificate, be TSC registered, complete 1500 hours of residential coursework, undertake 300 hours of teaching practice, and uphold ethical standards. Successful completion leads to a diploma awarded by KNEC.
Requirements for DECTE:
ECDE teachers pursuing DECTE need a valid ECDE certificate, TSC registration, 1890 hours of residential coursework, completion of program requirements, 300 hours of practical teaching, and adherence to moral conduct. Upon fulfilling these criteria, they receive a diploma from KNEC.
SELECTED TSC TEACHERS ELIGIBLE FOR DOUBLE PROMOTIONS IN 2024 ACROSS VARIOUS CATEGORIES
Emphasizing Professional Ethics:
Teachers are expected to maintain high moral principles and conduct throughout the upgrading process.
SEVERAL TEACHERS EXCLUDED FROM TSC’S PROMOTION LIST TO RECEIVE PROMOTION LETTERS
Encouragement for Teachers:
By undergoing upgrades, P1 and ECDE teachers can secure a promising career path in teaching, ensuring eligibility for TSC employment and promotions.
