Entry Requirements for Teacher Registration (Under CBC System)
Starting in 2024, the TSC Act has been amended to establish new minimum registration requirements for various programs.
Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)
– Possession of a Diploma certificate in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
– Attainment of a C (Plain) at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
– Candidates with disabilities must achieve a minimum entry grade of C- (Minus) at KCSE.
Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
– Holding a Diploma certificate in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
– Achieving a C (Plain) in KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level, D plain in Mathematics, and C- in English.
– Candidates with disabilities must attain a minimum entry grade of C- (Minus) at KCSE.
Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE)
– Possessing a Diploma certificate in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE).
– Attaining a C (Plain) in KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
– Achieving a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects offered at the secondary school level.
– Attaining a C (Plain) in English, Kiswahili/Kenya sign language, and Mathematics.
– Candidates with disabilities must meet the following minimum entry grades:
– C (Plain) at KCSE or its equivalent.
– C (plain) in two teaching subjects.
– C- (Minus) in English, Kiswahili/Kenya sign language.
Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE)
– Holding a Diploma certificate in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE).
– Attaining a C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
– Achieving a C+ in related two STEM technical teaching subjects or possessing a Diploma in a General Technical subject offered at the junior and senior school levels.

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Science)/ Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE)
– Possession of a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) (Science)/ Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE) Degree.
– Attainment of a C+ (Plus) or above at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
– Achieving a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects.
– Attaining a C (Plain) in English and Mathematics.
– Mean Grade C+ (plus) and above in KCSE or its equivalent.
– Attaining a C+ and above in the teaching subject.
– Attaining a C (Plain) in English and D+ in Mathematics.
Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Science
– Possession of a Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Science Degree.
– Attainment of a C+ (Plus) or above at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
– Attaining a C+ (Plus) in the teaching subject.
– Holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
– Attaining a C+ in one of the following subjects: English/Kiswahili/KSL, Math/Biology, and any Arts subjects.
– Mean grade of C- (Minus) at KCSE or its equivalent at the senior school level with a Certificate and Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
– Specializing in one of the following areas of disabilities: Autism, Emotional & Behavior Difficulties, Hearing Impairment, Deafblind, Intellectual Disabilities, Gifted and Talented, Visual Impairment, Physical Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Inclusive Education.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERSONS WITH CERTIFICATES FROM FOREIGN LEARNING INSTITUTIONS
Foreign Nationals
– Academic certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
– Professional education certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
– Registration Certificate as a Teacher from the jurisdiction of training.
– Authorization Letter from the Ministerial Vetting Committee.
– Work Permit.
Kenyan Nationals with Foreign Qualifications
– Academic certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
– Professional education certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
