Teaching License Mandate For TSC. Mandatory Teaching License for TSC Teachers: All TSC Teachers Required to Apply.

 

Introduction:

Teachers under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) mandate must now apply for teaching licenses. Refusal to participate in the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program could result in job loss.

 

 

The Licensing Process:

TPD training, aligned with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), which is mandatory for both public and private school teachers registered with TSC. Successful completion of TPD training grants teachers a renewable teaching certificate after every five years. This is after a contingent  completion of the TPD modules.

 

 

TPD Implementation:

The  Teacher Service Commission is amending the Teachers Service Commission Act. This act is  to make TPD training compulsory to all teachers. Seeking public input on the TSC Act Amendment Bill, 2024, the Commission aims to fortify its constitutional authority. Kenyan educational institutions have been invited to bid for training contracts. This includes TPD training set to commence in December 2024.

Funding and Regulations:

Dr. Nancy Macharia requested for a budget allocation of Ksh 4.2 billion for teacher promotion and the TPD program. The new TSC Act emphasizes teaching standards and a continuous professional development. This  mandating registered teachers to obtain practicing certificates from the commission. Failure to comply to TSC’ order, may lead to teaching prohibition.
