Introduction

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recognized discrepancies in the recently published teacher promotion list. This attributes them to challenges inherent in large-scale promotional exercises. TSC officials assure that these discrepancies do not compromise the overall integrity of the process, despite concerns within the educational community.

Unveiling the Results:

The comprehensive 724-page report, revealed on Wednesday, outlines the promotion of 36,505 teachers following interviews conducted in December and January. Aspiring candidates are advised to await official TSC promotion letters, which will address identified discrepancies. Successful applicants will also receive text messages from TSC County and Sub-County offices, guiding them on obtaining their promotion letters.

Transparency Advocacy:

Education unions like Knut and Kuppet have urged the TSC to enhance transparency by publishing the names of promoted educators, alongside their respective counties and sub-counties. This initiative aims to alleviate concerns and foster trust in the promotion process.

Document Submission and Requirements:

The 36,505 successful teachers will soon receive their promotional letters and are mandated to submit five Chapter six documents, as per the Kenyan Constitution’s guidelines on leadership and integrity. These documents include a Valid Certificate of Good Conduct, a Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and a Clearance Certificate from an accredited Credit Reference Bureau.

Regret Letters for Unsuccessful Candidates:

Candidates who did not secure promotions will receive regret letters, formally confirming their participation in the interviews. The promotion interviews, held in December for primary school teachers and January for Secondary school and Teacher Training College tutors, attracted an outstanding turnout of over 150,000 educators, as announced in September.
