Introduction

Yesterday, Meru Polytechnic came to a standstill as students united in protest, bringing all operations to a halt. The campus was gripped with emotion following the tragic loss of three students in a recent accident.

 

Business Activities Halted

Business operations along the Meru-Nanyuki highway came to a standstill on Friday, March 8th, as students from Meru National Polytechnic organized protests.

 

Students Take to the Streets

Hundreds of students flooded the streets, blocking the main highway to Meru town and lighting a bonfire, bringing traffic to a halt.

 

Demand for Justice

The demonstrations were sparked by the tragic deaths of three students allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle. The protesters demanded justice for their fallen peers.

 

Students’ Anger

Expressing their anger, the students accused the police of inaction against the driver involved in the accident, fueling their protest.

 

Procession to Meru Town

Despite the growing crowd, the students marched from the institution towards Meru town, determined to make their voices heard.

 

Call for Action

The demonstrators called for immediate action against the driver and urged authorities to address the issue promptly.

 

Tragic Incident

The fatal accident occurred on Thursday, March 7th, when a speeding car struck three students, resulting in one immediate fatality and the other two succumbing to their injuries on the way to the hospital. The students were skating on the main road when the accident happened.

 

Previous Incidents

This protest follows a similar one at Multimedia University in Nairobi, where students protested after a peer was attacked by hyenas while returning home.

 

Persistent Demands

The students at Multimedia University blocked Magadi road, connecting Ongata Rongai to Nairobi, and lit bonfires to demand action from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) against the hyena menace.

 

Resolution Vowed
