Mass Teacher Recruitment Begins.Government’s Push for CBC Implementation.
  Introduction:
The national government is taking decisive action to bolster the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). Basic Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang and Interior Ministry counterpart Raymond Omollo have unveiled plans for a massive recruitment drive to address the shortage of teachers in basic education institutions.
Mass Recruitment to Fill Teaching Gaps
To tackle the shortage, the government aims to recruit 20,000 teachers. In addition the government will construct 16,000 classrooms. This initiative, slated to commence in July, marks a crucial step towards ensuring an ample supply of educators for the effective execution of the CBC.
Commitment to Adequate Staffing
Kipsang underscored the government’s dedication to the initiative, affirming, “We are committed to hiring at least 20,000 teachers by July.” Emphasizing the importance of sufficient staffing, he stressed the need for enough teachers to facilitate the successful implementation of the CBC.
Relieving School Management Burden
During educational events at Rang’i Primary School and Orero Boys in Rangwe constituency, Kipsang emphasized that the influx of new teachers would create a conducive learning environment for students. Furthermore, he highlighted that this recruitment drive would ease the burden on School Boards of Management (BOM) regarding teacher recruitment.
Addressing Teacher Shortages
Teacher shortages have posed significant challenges to CBC implementation, particularly in junior secondary schools. Kipsang acknowledged concerns raised by educators, reassuring them that the government is actively developing strategies to address these challenges and ensure timely education delivery.
