Fee Hike Insights Unveiled. No Fee Hikes for KCSE Candidates’ Parents in Higher Education.
Maintaining Last Year’s Fees
Parents of candidates who undertook the KCSE exam last year can breathe a sigh of relief as they will not face increased fees for their children’s university and college education. Universities and colleges have received instructions to uphold the fees set last year and refrain from raising the costs of declared courses. The Universities Fund (UF) and senior Ministry of Education officials will oversee a review of declared courses and associated costs, with institutions warned of punitive measures for disregarding directives against fee hikes.
Continuation of New Funding Model
This year’s admissions signify the second cohort under the new funding model, which allows universities to establish individual program fees without adjusting them for enrolled students throughout their studies. KUCCPS CEO Mercy Wahome has announced the opening of the online application portal for the 899,453 students who qualified for degree and diploma courses following the 2023 KCSE.
Expanded Application Opportunities
The application process, primarily targeting last year’s candidates, also extends to school leavers from the past 12 years who can apply for non-degree courses. Dr. Wahome emphasized that all students would find placement in various courses, including degree, diploma, certificate, craft, and artisan programs.
Call for Participation from Past KCSE Candidates
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has urged learners who sat the KCSE in the last 13 years to seize the placement opportunity, highlighting the importance of a collective effort to achieve 100 percent transition from secondary to higher education.
