New Teacher CBC Guidelines.Entry Requirements for Teacher Registration (Under CBC System)
In accordance with the successful amendment of the TSC Act in 2024, the following programs outline the minimum registration requirements for prospective teachers.
Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)
1. Diploma Certificate:Obtain a Diploma certificate in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
2. Academic Criteria: Attain a minimum of C (Plain) at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Candidates with Disabilities:For individuals with disabilities, the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) at KCSE.
Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
1. Diploma Certificate:Acquire a Diploma certificate in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
2. Academic Criteria:Secure a minimum of C (Plain) in KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level, with D plain in Mathematics and C- in English.
3. Candidates with Disabilities: The minimum entry grade for candidates with disabilities is C- (Minus) at KCSE.
Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE)
1. Diploma Certificate: Attain a Diploma certificate in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE).
2. Academic Criteria:Achieve a minimum of C (Plain) in KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Teaching Subjects:Secure a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects offered at the secondary school level.
4. Additional Subjects: Attain a C (Plain) in English, Kiswahili/Kenya sign language, and Mathematics.
Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE)
1. Diploma Certificate:Obtain a Diploma certificate in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE).
2. Academic Criteria:Attain a minimum of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. STEM Subjects: Achieve a C+ in two related STEM technical teaching subjects.
4. General Technical Subject: Alternatively, hold a Diploma in a General Technical subject offered at junior and senior school levels.
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Science)/Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE)
1. Degree: Hold a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) (Science)/Bachelor of Science with Education (BSE) Degree.
2. Academic Criteria: Attain a minimum of C+ (Plus) or above at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Teaching Subjects: Achieve a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects, along with a C (Plain) in English and Mathematics.
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Arts)/Bachelor of Arts with Education (BAE)
1. Degree:Possess a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) (Arts)/Bachelor of Arts with Education Degree (BAE).
2. Academic Criteria: Attain a minimum of C+ (Plus) or above at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Teaching Subjects: Achieve a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects, with a C (Plain) in English and D+ (Plus) in Mathematics.

3. Candidates with Disabilities: For learners with special needs, the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) at KCSE.
a) Bachelor of Education (in any subject)
1. Degree: Hold a Bachelor of Education Degree.
2. Academic Criteria: Attain a mean grade of C+ (Plus) and above in KCSE or its equivalent.
3. Subject Criteria:
Achieve a C+ and above in the teaching subject, along with a C (Plain) in English and D+ in Mathematics.
 b)Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
1. Degree: Possess a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Degree.
2. Academic Criteria: Attain a C+ (Plus) or above at KCSE or its equivalent at the Senior School level.
3.Subject Criteria:
Achieve a C+ (Plus) in the teaching subject, and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).
c) Diploma in Education (DE)
1. Diploma Certificate:
Acquire a Diploma certificate in Education (DE).
2. Academic Criteria:
Attain a minimum of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Subject Criteria:
Achieve a C+ in the teaching subject or hold a Diploma in a subject offered at junior and senior school levels.
Registration of ECDE Teachers with Montessori Training
Diploma ECDE Montessori Curriculum
1. Diploma Certificate:
Obtain a Diploma certificate in ECDE Montessori Curriculum.
2. Academic Criteria:
Attain a minimum of C plain and above in KCSE or its equivalent.
Special Needs Education
Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE)(PRESERVICE)
1. Diploma Certificate:
Acquire a Diploma certificate in Special Needs Education.
2. Academic Criteria:
Attain a C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent at the Senior School level.
3. Candidates with Disabilities:
For learners with disabilities, the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) at KCSE.
Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education)
1. Degree Hold a Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) degree.
2. Academic Criteria:
Attain a mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent in senior school.
3. Subject Criteria: Achieve a C+ in one of the following subjects: English/Kiswahili/KSL, Math/Biology, and any Arts subjects.
4. Additional Criteria: Attain a mean grade of C- (Minus) at KCSE or its equivalent at senior school with a Certificate and Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
5. Specialization: Specialize in one of the following areas of disabilities: Autism, Emotional & Behaviour Difficulties, Hearing Impairment, Deafblind, Intellectual Disabilities, Gifted and Talented, Visual Impairment, Physical Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Inclusive Education.
Qualifications for Persons with Certificates from Foreign Learning Institutions
a) Foreign Nationals Seeking Registration as a Teacher in Kenya
1. Academic Certificates:
Present academic certificates duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
2. Professional Education Certificate:
Provide a professional education certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
3. Registration Certificate:
Possess a Registration Certificate as a Teacher from the jurisdiction of training.
4. Authorization Letter:
Furnish an Authorization Letter from the Ministerial Vetting Committee.
5. Work Permit:
Hold a valid Work Permit.
b) Kenyan Nationals with Foreign Qualifications
1. Academic Certificates:
Present academic certificates duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
2. Professional Education Certificate:
Provide a professional education certificate duly equated and recognized by the relevant statutory body.
