Don’t Politicize Education! Nyamira Politicians Urged. Promoting Higher Education: A Call to Unite for Nyamira’s University.
   Introduction:
Leaders in Nyamira County are urged to refrain from politicizing the establishment of Nyamira’s upcoming university, particularly regarding its location. West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka criticized the ongoing disputes among Nyamira leaders. Mogaka emphasized on the importance of avoiding such petty politics in the education sector.
President’s Milestone:
Mogaka expressed gratitude to the President for granting Nyamira its university. He considered it as a significant achievement in Nyamira .He urged leaders to prioritize the future of the younger generation over political agendas, emphasizing the need to avoid politicizing the education sector.
Cheque Issuance Event:
Addressing the issue during the distribution of cheques to over 800 university students in Nyamira town, Mogaka dismissed the debates on the university’s location. He emphasized the collective benefit of having a university in the county. He therefore urged leaders to steer clear of unnecessary political maneuvering.
Initiative for Educational Accessibility:
Last year, Mogaka initiated the push for a university in Nyamira County, rallying other leaders to join the cause. He highlighted the disparity where students excel in exams only to travel long distances for higher education due to the lack of a local university. The appeal was for the establishment of a university to cater to the educational needs of Nyamira’s youth.
Collaboration with Kisii University:
Mogaka also secured an agreement with Kisii University School of Health Sciences to establish a branch at the Kenya Medical Training College. This move is seen as a step towards eventually establishing a satellite campus in Nyamira County, providing local access to higher education.
University Gap Since 2017:
Nyamira County has been without a university since 2017, when Kisii University’s satellite campus was closed by the then Education CS Fred Matiang’i due to non-compliance. The closure affected satellite campuses in Ogembo, Migori, Nyamira, Keroka, and Kehancha.
  Conclusion:
The plea is for unity among Nyamira’s leaders in fostering higher education opportunities rather than engaging in divisive politics surrounding the location of the upcoming university. The focus should be on providing accessible education for the youth, marking a positive step towards a brighter future for Nyamira County.
