     Introduction.

25000 To Benefit From 1.5B.The State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, under the government’s initiative, has granted Ksh.1.5 billion to support programs in all  the 47 counties through the National Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

This substantial allocation is distributed in two installments. This is earmarked for addressing the financial needs of students . Especially from many  economically disadvantaged households in the first and second quarters of the 2023/2024 Financial Year.
Announcing this on Thursday, Principal Secretary Anne Wang’ombe emphasized that Ksh.273 million of the funds will be directed toward supporting bursaries and scholarships. This benefit 25,000 students. Additionally, Ksh.413 million has been disbursed to assist 2,000 registered affirmative action groups. They are focusing on socio-economic empowerment and value addition initiatives.
Wang’ombe highlighted, “These grants aim to boost the disposable income levels of beneficiaries for enhanced livelihoods through enterprise development. Furthermore, Ksh.677 million is allocated for countywide projects that will benefit a broad cross-section of residents in all the 47 counties.”
Continuing, she stated that the fund will actively support the prevention and response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, including the construction of GBV centers and gender reporting units in police stations. It will also contribute to social-cultural development, talent nurturing, and the provision of water facilities and other essential amenities to the public.
Moreover, Ksh.137 million has been allocated for civic education, intending to raise awareness about various government programs and policies. It will also provide information on accessing funds from NGAAF and other decentralized funds.
“The civic education forums aim to ensure an increased uptake of government programs and services,” emphasized the PS.

Universities Suffers Scarcity Of Professors. What Will They Do?

She further explained that the grant beneficiaries are affirmative action groups meeting eligibility criteria, having successfully applied through NGAAF County offices in allthe  47 counties by October 31, 2023. The respective NGAAF County offices have already reached out to individual beneficiaries for immediate support.
