Withdraw Endangered Teacher. KUPPET Demands .KUPPET Urges TSC to Address Exam Result Protests

     Introduction:

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET),  is urging the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to relocate teachers from schools where parents protest poor exam results. The union emphasized on the recent instances of dissatisfaction with the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) scores. This discontent often leads to demonstrations demanding the removal of school heads.

Chairman’s Condemnation:

KUPPET’s chairman, Amboko Milema, strongly condemns these actions and suggests that politicians might be inciting the attacks. Stressing the importance of realistic expectations, Milema points out that teachers can only contribute to enhancing performance to a certain extent. He reaches out to the TSC, requesting the withdrawal of teachers from protesting schools, emphasizing the need to respect teachers for their valuable role and expressing concern about harassment from parents and politicians.

Recent Incidents:

In the most recent incident at St Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Kakamega county. Where the parents were supported by their area MP Peter Salasya, stormed the school demanding the removal of the school principal. They  accused teacher for failing to maintain academic standards. Similar incidents have occurred in Narok County and Uasin Gishu Counties . Reflecting communities’ dissatisfaction with school performance.

KUPPET’s Call to Action:

Milema’s appeal to the TSC underscores the necessity of addressing these protests promptly and sensitively, emphasizing the collaborative role of all stakeholders in enhancing education quality.

He reminds communities that learner achievement reflects the combined efforts of parents, teachers, and candidates themselves.
